Nurse Practitioner Joins Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC

November 2008      Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC is happy to announce the addition of our newest medical provider, Rachel Torrens, FNP.  Rachel is a nurse practitioner that will be seeing patients of all ages in our office in November 2008.  

"We are excited to continue our tradition of quality, board certified health care in having Rachel join us", says Dr. Steven Halm.   "She will provide complete, compassionate care for her patients and we know she will quickly build a strong clinical following."

Rachel graduated form Grove City College in Grove City, PA and received her Masters in Nursing and Family Nurse Practitioner training at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, PA.  She and her husband reside in Reidsville. 

With Rachel joining our medical practice, Triad Medicine and Pediatrics' professional team now consists of five board certified medical providers serving families of the northern triad region.  

 

Flu Vaccines Available for 2008-2009 Season

LKWSpencerMe.JPG (18970 bytes)September 2008  Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC (TMPA) is planning to have an excellent stock of Influenza vaccine this year.  Vaccination administration will begin in October!  We carry both the injectable vaccine and the nasal spray "FLUMIST" vaccine.  Both of these vaccines are equally effective and safe.  Please contact our office at 336 634 3902 for more information regarding administration times and costs. 

 

Dr. Halm Designated Senior Aviation Medical Examiner by the Federal Aviation Administration

July 2008  Dr. Steven J. Halm has been designated a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) by Dr. Susan Northrup, FAA's Regional Flight Surgeon for the Southern Region.   Dr.Halm has provided class 2 and 3 pilot medical examination for the FAA since 2002.   As a "Senior" AME,  Dr. Halm is now able to provide complete physical evaluations for any pilot in the US, whether they be private pilots, transport pilots, or commercial airline pilots.   Dr. Halm becomes one of 1,700 physicians in the US that are qualified, based on training and experience, in designating the health safety of such US pilots.   For more more information, visit our PILOT'S CORNER or contact our office at 336 634 3902.  

Dr. Halm Recertifies 
in Pediatrics

Dec 2007   Dr. Steven J. Halm completed recertification by the American Board of Pediatrics, Chapel Hill, NC. His new certificate is good for 7 years and required extensive studies in current treatments of pediatric medical conditions, including advances in pediatric cardiology, pulmonology, infectious diseases, and preventive medicine. The 7 year renewal is required of pediatric specialists that begin their careers after 1990. This "board certification" in caring for infants, children and adolescents is in addition to his current certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine, credentialing him as a specialist in the medical care of adults as well. 

Dr. Halm Completes Chief of Staff Year as
Annie Penn Section Chief of the Moses Cone Health System

Dr. Steven J. Halm has completed his service as Chief of Staff at Annie Penn Hospital in Reidsville, NC.  Dr. Halm was selected by his fellow physicians to lead their medical staff and represented the doctors of Annie Penn Hospital of the Moses Cone Health.   Dr. Halm has served as a medical staff leader in 1998-2000, having been the Chief of Medicine at Annie Penn Hospital.  He has also just completed a 2-year tenure as a member of the Moses Cones Health System Medical Executive Committee. 

Dr. Halm Recertified as FAA Airman Medical Examiner

September 2007   Dr. Steven J. Halm has completed training to continue to provide area pilots with FAA Class 2 and Class 3 Medical Certificates.  Dr. Halm, an instrument-rated private pilot, began providing FAA examinations in 2002.  He completes retraining every 3 years to continue this FAA-approved medical service.  His most recent training focused on the cardiovascular aspects of aviation and aerospace medicine. He is one of 4,000 US physicians trained as an FAA Medical Examiner. 

Donna Jennings, PA-C Recertifies

May 2007   ALL of our providers remain board certified by their respective national medical specialty board.   Donna Jennings, PA-C has obtained "board certification" status for the second time, attesting to her dedication to professionalism and quality medical care.   Donna has passed formal testing provided by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.  She joined Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC full time in 2007. 

New Medical Provider Joins TMPA in April 2007

April 2007  Donna Jennings, PA-C returns to Reidsville to work with Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC once again.   Donna initially practiced with us in the spring of 2005 after spending 1 year in Pediatrics in Florida and a year working in Mexico.  In late 2005, Donna returned to Mexico to provide medical care to needy children in an orphanage in Acapulco.  She also worked with our office during her medical training in 2000-2001 in obtaining her PA degree.   Her mother and father, Dr. and Mrs. Harold Jennings, are proud to have her return to the community she grew up in.  Like ALL of our medical providers, Donna is board certified (by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) and has a medical license from the North Carolina Medical Board. 

Lisa K. Webster, PA-C Recertifies

November 2006  ALL of our providers remain board certified by their respective national medical specialty board.   Lisa K. Webster, PA-C has successfully attained "board certification" status for the third time, attesting to her dedication to professionalism and quality care.   Lisa completed extensive education courses and passed formal testing provided by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants.  Lisa has been a physician assistant with Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC since 1994. 

Christmas "Angel Tree" at TMPA

November 2006  Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC (TMPA) employees decided to celebrate Christmas this year with the gift of giving.  Our staff has arranged for 30 children within the practice to receive special Christmas gifts purchased by 30 other families within the practice that can afford to provide some "extra gift giving."  All participating children and families will be invited to a Christmas celebration at our expanded office early in the season to exchange gifts and share in some Christmas treats and cheer.  We look forward to providing for our special needs children within the practice and provide an important avenue for those that are financially blessed to help others. This is just another example of our staff's true desire and dedication to our family of pediatric patients! 

TMPA - Caring For Medical Needs for ALL Ages

2006 With recent changes in group practices in the area, Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC (TMPA) continue its commitment to primary care practice for patients of ALL ages.  In addition to pediatric hospital care and office primary care for ALL  ages, our practice covers ALL hospital newborn consultations and emergencies, including cesarean sections, at ALL hours of the day or night, every day of the year.  

This, along with ALL of our providers being board certified, sets us apart from other medical practices in the area. 

TMPA Provides DENTAL Care 
for Infants and Young Children Too!

PICU 2006   Not too many parents realize that our practice now provides general office dental prophylaxis for our patients under 3 years of age.  The "Into the Mouth of Babes" program, supported by the State of North Carolina, hopes to significantly reduce the incidents of childhood tooth decay and dental problems .  TMPA has started the  dental care program in 1999, one of the pioneers in providing this care in North Carolina.   Our staff is able to provide routine tooth examinations, application of a fluoride sealant, and education to parents on eliminating the risks of tooth decay.  "The program has been very successful and much appreciated by our patient's families."   Currently Medicaid and NC HealthChoice cover the services on an every 3 month basis.  Families with other insurance plans may receive the services at approximately $ 45-50 per session.  Please call Shannon, 336 634 3902 Ext 201 for more information.

2006 Both Dr. Halm and the Web site, YourPediatrician.com have been included in "America's Best".    The Consumer Research Council of America recognized YourPediatrician.com as one of the best pediatric health sites on the Internet for 2005The same organization has recognized Dr. Halm as one of America's best Pediatricians. 

In 1999, Dr. Steven J. Halm started  YourPediatrician.com, Inc., a Web-based company that provides information for parents and pediatricians across the US and abroad.  www.YourPediatrician.com has been recognized as a leading resource for pediatric education and information on the Internet, for both parents and pediatric practices. The site includes age-specific well child information, tips on parenting, dosing calculators for common over-the-counter medications, and numerous streamed health/safety videos.  

Dr. Halm and YourPediatrician.com, Inc. also provide Web site support for national Project Linus chapters, as well as our own local Rockingham County chapter

TMPA Top in State of NC 
in Immunization Rates for Children Under 2 Years!

Newborn Intensive Care Unit2005 Triad Medicine and Pediatric Associates, PLLC has been recognized statewide as one of a select few practices that has one of the best vaccine rates for children under age 2 years.  The state's Universal Vaccine Program supplies vaccines for doctor's offices and health departments across North Carolina.  Each year the state randomly evaluates vaccine procedures and rates for private and public (health department) medical facilities.  TMPA's vaccine rate was 98%, one of the tops in the state for both private and public facilities.  "Vaccines remain the cornerstone of our pediatric service," states Dr. Halm.   "Vaccinating children has been the most important health care improvement in the 20th century."  TMPA is proud to provide this vital service in such a successful  manner for patients."

Dr. Halm Recertifies 
in Adult Internal Medicine

2005  Dr. Steven J. Halm completed recertification by the American Board of Internal Medicine. His new certificate is good for 10 years and required extensive studies in current treatments of adult medical conditions, including advances in cardiology, pulmonology, infectious diseases, and preventive medicine. The 10 year renewal is required of Internal Medicine specialists that begin their careers after 1990. This "board certification" in caring for adults is in addition to his current certification by the American Board of Pediatrics, credentialing him as a specialist in the medical care of infants, children and adolescents.

Hospitalists Caring 
for our Adult Inpatients

2005   TMPA has arranged for the hospitalist group, InCompass, to cover the hospital care needs of all of our patients over 18 years.  This allows us to continue to provide timely office care for our adults while focusing our inpatient care on neonatal and pediatric medicine.  Dr. Halm states "we are the only doctors covering all needs for a hospital that has had increasing numbers of deliveries and C-sections - approaching 400 for the current year. This kind of extra time and energy at the hospital made it challenging for our group.  Now, we can rely on the responsive hospitalist team to see our adults in the hospital and get them home sooner than we could have."  Many practices in the country have found utilizing hospitalists improves their office flow.  "We expect this in our office also." 

Dr. McGowen Completes Board Certification
in Family Medicine

2004  Dr. Philip McGowen completed certification by the American Board of Family Medicine in 2004. Board Certification in Family Medicine required extensive studies in current treatments of adults and children alike. Dr. McGowen cares for adults and children of all ages.
